Image Correction
A domestic space is turned upside down for the lense of a DIY camera obscura, the artist performs a handstand as her dress reverses exposing her undergarments and covering her face. The scene contains an idyllic wedding photograph,a religious ornament, and an erotic novel, all of which allude to conflicts of interest which are 'corrected' by the image making of the observing camera.
Through performative actions and viewer interactivity, this installation challenges the characteristics of photographic imaging that place it as a principal document of memories, histories, and realities. Using the lo-fi technology of a camera obscura, the viewer interacts with two separate depictions of the same scene. Wanting to confuse illusion and reality, this piece subverts the faculty of the the camera, as well as the eye, which commonly romanticize the framed.
